We spotted 3 bucks over 1700 yards away, and was able to close the gap to just over 400. I took this buck at 410 yards with my Tikka T3 in .270, topped with a Leupold VX-III 4.5x14x42 B&C recticle. Hand loads using 130 gr.Sciroccos. With only a few seconds to judge him before he was into the thick PJ, he looked much taller and wider than he really is. The old saying " they always look wider from the rear" holds true. A 3x3, 24+ inches wide, unfortunately he was not the kind of buck we were looking for.
