Silver Apples are a psychedelic electronic music duo from New York City composed of Simeon Coxe III, who performs as Simeon, on a primitive synthesizer of his own devising (also named The Simeon), and until his death in 2005, drummer Danny Taylor. The group was active between 1967 and 1969, before reforming in the mid 1990s. They were one of the first groups to employ electronic music techniques extensively within a rock idiom, and their minimalistic style, with its pulsing, driving beat and frequently discordant modality, anticipated not only the experimental electronic music and krautrock of the 1970s, but underground dance music and indie rock of the 1990s as well.

  • I am surprised I have never heard of Silver Apples. I just checked out a couple of their songs and can see that they were ahead of their time. I can see how they influenced a lot of music.

  • thanks god there is a legal drug ! in shape of an apple

  • any band able to tune into playing on psychedelix can be called "ahead of their time", but in that "zone" there IS no time, repetative trance has been with us since we learned we had voices and could bang two rocks together... if anything these guys were part of the doorway into re-opening that trance dance vine... and like the guys above i am actually SHOCKED i have never heard of them before either... brilliant, simple honest psychedelia

  • @LanceHelmut silver apples = stereolab ;)

  • @dvanbeever Check out the United States Of America as well, if you dig that 60's electronic Portishead sound.

  • silver apples + tangerine dream = radiohead...try out "hear come the warm jets". by eno...david bowie "low"..and joy division...all you fans of "post this" and "post that" .

  • I's never heard of them, until about 1999? but I am sure glad I finally did, incredible, so far out it staggers belief, but still with strong melodies!

  • @Countrychiddler I was about 20 and got my first taste of synths with Apples. Mesmerizing throbbing electronic rythyms. Hendrix was ripping notes outa the sky and doing incredible acrobatic shit with his strat.

  • @Countrychiddler

Really? Could you tell me more about it? I'd love to know what it was like to be there.

  • @dvanbeever

Yes, it's a tribute which was apparently approved by Silver Apples, since they played a cover of "We Carry On" live.

  • @fendertaylor101 first check out album realese dates
