Part 2 of a video tutorial on general tactics in the popular space-based RTS/4X/Grand Strategy/Tower Defense game known AI War: Fleet Command (yes, that's a lot of subgenre labels, but this is something really new and interesting). Covers the folly of destroying an enemy command station to early and how to recover, more basic tactical positioning to maximize friendly firepower while minimizing enemy firepower in each engagement, how to attack a fortified position (turrets) with minimal losses, and in general looks at the massive improvement in killt-o-loss ratios that can be seen by employing even just these elementary group tactics.

  • Its too bad this is a windows only game like most.

I am addicted to such types of games.

But duel booting is inconvenient at best.

Will be nice when linux gets some gaming momentum going past FPS games.

  • AI War is a dotnet 3.5 application, so the main thing that we are waiting on is better Mono/WINE support. Right now the support for dotnet 3.5 is fairly shaky, although players have created a Linux thread on our forums where they have been chronicling their experiences with it so far. It's not yet playable, but I have high hopes for Mono/WINE as they continue to develop.

  • hey i got a question, after taking over certain planets, there are still a bunch of cloaked enemies in hiding. what's the best way to find them quickly? right now i'm running around the map with a bunch of attack ships with a decloaker in the middle, hoping i run into them, but it's taking a long time to do so

  • @waltermh111 Good news, it's available for Macintosh now. :)

  • AI War in now using the Unity engine, so it works across all platforms now.

  • ..waiting for linux version

  • u r lucky that the ai had no electric shuttles becuse right now i am get own by them i have like 3v1 to the ai but because the ai have electric shuttles i lose my fleet to them

  • lol

    ouch, .net

    oh well, nothings perfect :P

I have the site bookmarked, I will have to remember to check back on the linux support once in awhile, but open source development is usually slow so I am likely to be playing it on windows first, lol

thanks for all the info at least. Its good to know the game has a following of linux users.
