It is actually very possible to jump over three squares. I always do it on that part in the end when you're ahem...(spoiler? O.o) supposed to warp from subriosa to that volcano place...umm can't really explain it but you're not supposed to be able to get there I think til much later in the game but it's no problem really since you can jump over that gap of three squares ^^
