My nurse is changing my PiCC line dressing. Please keep your negative comments to yourself about my nurse's technique. He came to me for free out of the kindness of his heart every week for about 6 months until I had to move. I change my dressings on my own now and wish I still had him. I never had an infection & now have my 2nd PiCC line. Still battling Lyme Disease with very little help from Anthem Blue Cross insurance.

  • i have to do my picc line infusions and dressing changes myself. gag. b/c my insurance doesnt cover any homehealth now that i've reached my policy limits. i so wish i had someone professional come and do it for me. i try to keep my infusions as sterile as possible, but a one-armed bandit can only do so much. lol

  • @amandanstevens I do mine on my own now as well. The nurse in this video came out of the kindness of his heart for free for months until I moved.

  • i love your crow in the background! :)

  • @PillowBiterrVids Me too. He is a rescue. Twice the size now.

  • Wow! I am a RN. I hope you haven't encountered a Blood Stream Infection as a result of your "nurse's" poor technique.. 1) You have no mask on, and I am betting that the person filiming doesn't have one on either. 2) There is a bird in the room! 3) Your "nurse" failed to wash their hands before taking off and putting on new gloves - which I hope were sterile. 4) The nurse repeatedly breaks sterility by reaching outside the sterile field. Tsk...tsk...tsk. And that is not everything!

  • @lawsonfam I loved my nurse. I was so grateful to have him. He was the best. He was also free. Came to me once a week out of the kindness of his heart. He never did wash his hands in between the glove change (2nd set were sterile). My kits only came with one mask & now I do my dressing changes on my own. Not fun!

  • Hey stay strong, good nurse to take his time and help a friend out. Pretty bad ass you could change your own dressing.

  • @cndbabe2010 Thank you for commenting to lawsonfam, who has clearly never compromised technique for pragmatism.

  • I have had lymes disease for two years now and they had me do a picc line for a month and yeah i felt better but day by day i am feeling worse and worse again...so i'll probably have to start it again which i am not looking forward to. I just want them to find a cure for the disease soon!

  • @lawsonfam There is no need to wash hands in between clean gloves to put on sterile gloves as you would have washed your hands before starting the procedure, a healthy patient like this doesn't need a mask as she is not coughing and this is just a suggestion. The person filming the procedure is so far away that it doesn't matter. Get an updated education. You should see how they do things in 3rd world countries and although rates are lower, people still live.

  • I am sure there is a nursing student out there that would love the practice!! Just a thought!!

  • @sonyafly Could you get a nursing student to do it for you? Someone out there would probably love the practice!

  • @SellyNue The hospital I got my PiCC placed, Cedars-Sinai says it only needs to be changed once per month. I also did not have them supplied by my IV supply company, so I asked him to only change them once a month. Never had a problem. The alcohol never loosened it. I wonder why because that is what is used to remove the stat lock.
