Back from the days when ads went out live! This incredibly cheesy advert is hilarious! The 'husband' not sticking to his mark and progressively squeezing the woman out-of-shot, her forgetting her lines at the start and laughing, showing the 'colour chart' when all TVs were black&white! I suppose it wasn't supposed to be funny, but it is!

This was post war britain. Still class ridden. If an actor did not speak like this - they could not get employed. The ad is 'lite' but not funny. The whole attitude was indicative of the social absurdity of the time. This has all broken down now (thank God). Americans could tell the difference between the Monarchy and Commoners - but not the total perversity of the English class system.
