Yesterday afternoon a Modesto Police officer was injured in the line if duty and a suspect was tasered all behind the Wal-Mart on Plaza Parkway in Modesto, California.

Wal-Mart security arrested a man inside their store yesterday afternoon for shoplifting and made a call to the Modesto Police Department to inform them of the arrest. An officer from MDP arrived at the store and took custody of the suspect. As they were walking out of the store thru an rear door, the suspect was able to slip out of one the cuffs, elbow the officer in the face, and attempt an escape. The officer struggled with the suspect to keep him from fleeing and was finally able to subdue the man after shooting him with his taser.
During the struggle the officer sustained a minor cut on his arm. He was treated at an area hospital with a processionally Tetanus shot and returned to service immediately finishing out his shift.
This suspect was booked into the Stanislaus County Jail on charges of Assaulting a police officer, escape, burglary, and a parole violation.
