Decided to stop waiting for the official 2.1 OTA and went ahead and rooted my phone. Installed the Bugless Beast V1.1 rom and the Adamz 1ghz kernel. So far so good. Home ++ force closes every now and then but really stable for the most part and REALLY fast.

How to obtain my setup...follow these steps if you have a completely stock phone.

Before doing anything you MUST BE ROOTED
Step 1
How to root your droid
http://rootyourdroid.info/

Download this file (0.99.2b)
http://downloads.droidmod.org/recovery-0.99.2b.img

Step 2
Follow this guide for installing SBRecovery 0.99.2b and doing a nandroid backup.
Part1

Part2

Step 3
Now your going to download the rom you want to install/use. For me I'm using Bugless Beast V1.1 which you can find here. http://androidoverdrive.com/pete/BuglessBeast/V1.2/update.zip

Instructions for installing a rom:
Update.zip Installation Info & Instructions (No Data Loss):
-You can upgrade from any rooted ROM that is 2.0.1
-Be sure to have signed into your Google account before installing
-Update (if available) all of your apps before installing
-Download update.zip
-Uninstall any apk & odex files I previously moved to /data (Only If Installing Over 0.7 Or Previous ROMS)
-Place update.zip on the root of sdcard
-Reboot into recovery
-Install
-Allow update.zip installation
-Install /sdcard/update.zip (deprecated)
-Enjoy!

This is Pete's (bugless beast guy) thread that shoud cover everything after you install SBRecovery 0.99.2b. After that it's REALLY easy.

  • you sound like a young ray romano

  • @jimjamkillsnerds My family is from Boston...

  • So, just curious. You're running 1.1, what kernel is that? ESE53? Or ESD56?

  • Actually I just updated to the 2.1 firmware which is rooted obviously. One thing I noticed is the battery life is MUCH better and the phone runs a LOT cooler. With this bugless beast the phone would always run really hot.

  • Just thought I'd say, when the text pixelates, it is a performance thing. Makes the zooming with pinching smoother.

  • Yeah I figured it was. Has to render less.

  • too bad this rom is nowhere to be found anymore. I'm sick of 2.2 wasting away my battery.

  • Or just get a good HTC phone and not have to deal with any bugs at all

  • @add119 oh yes, 2months ago I know nothing about it, now I'm running it at 700 or 900 because of heat, lower voltage = longer cpu life + longer battery life. 1.3ghz is good for benchmarking, but for real use? dunno. if you want to play a game for longer time or surf the web - it will drain your battery like crazy, won't it?

  • @MuF123 yes bro is stable to me im running my droid at 1.3ghz

  • is bugless beast only for droid?

  • I love that launcher, did it come with the rom?

  • How's the battery since it's overclocked? I'm thinking about doing this to my Motorola Milestone, but only if it doesn't murder my battery. Haha. Great video!

  • is it stable at 1GHz? "the phone would always run really hot" = you mean hot like in speedy way or as with higher temperature from CPU?

  • man go with LIthium Mod Its pretty nice

  • Could u upload wallpaper please?:)
