Greetings! 1 day till we put that big bird in the oven! If you have never carved your turkey, here I show you the simple basics to cutting up the main attraction of your holiday table. Really, you should approach it as just a big chicken. However, I do not suggest that you carve the bird at the table. i believe that the turkey should be carved in the kitchen to avoid any number of disaster scenarios. Also I will show you how to carve the breast meat properly so you get more servings and less waste and more manageable slices.

I hope this helps if you have some apprehension about taking the knife to your turkey.

I hope you have a wonderful and blessed Thanksgiving!

  • Any turkey soup leftover how to's

  • Gravy - how?

  • I always find carving a turkey to be messy and cumbersome, but boy do I love to eat it! You make the job look so easy. Will definitely try it your way this year, especially cutting and slicing the breast the way you did. Happy Thanksgiving!

  • Thanks for the ideas.. but I was taught completely different...slice under the breast then in uniform slices ... something like that... A lot less deconstructing than this method... and ALWAYS clean the carcass... two each his own I guess... love your videos...

  • I love to pull off the breast and slice it that way, because then each slice has some of the skin, otherwise it all goes on the first couple of slices. Good Job! Happy Thanksgiving you guys!

  • Thanks for reposting this I always forget to try it this way. I love the smaller size of the breast since half of it usually gets tossed because people take more then they can eat. Have a Happy and safe Thanksgiving. Blessings!

  • LOL yes a chef is watching but I think you do a great job....

  • Thank you for posting! I'm making my first turkey this year so I've been watching your videos. You've definitely made me feel much more confident about roasting my first turkey and now how to carve it! Thanks so much! Can't wait to see how mine turns out tomorrow! :)

  • i'd also like to see the turkey soup...and I also love that you show that carving a turkey is HARD WORK! Those tv chefs must be dealing with a room temperature bird because those suckers stay HOT for at least 2 hours! This is the way I carve my turkey and I know that it requires a little elbow grease! BTW, you're legs looked beautiful. The bone usually slides out of mine, leaving this sort of boneless leg thing. :-) I always leave the nugget for myself for after dinner when everybody leaves!
