Many atheists like to exploit apparent errors in the bible. In this series of videos, I will be refuting some of the claims made by them. In this video, I look at the discrepancy between 2 Kings 8:26 and 2 Chronicles 22:2, which apparently contradict on how old Ahaziah was when he started to reign as king. http://skepticsannotatedbiblerespons....

The steady state idea was wrong since the evidence fell to the Big Bang. Science is self correcting. In contrast religions resist change - it took about 150 years for the pope to accept evolution and most theists still don't understand the basic concept. The consequence is that religions get dragged into the future and they slow the science down.
Exactly. So when you someone asks "do you believe in Evolution" implying it is exactly correct today and no changes will occur, you should say "No". as we intend to find out more and continue to improve this theory. Atheists act like science isn't self correcting, that it is exactly correct on everything today.
"took 150 years for the pope"
I hate bureaucracies. That's what the Pope is, head bureaucrat. 1st century Christianity was not a corporate entity.
Scientists like myself do not think that there won't be changes to theories in the future. However, the theory of evolution is so incredibly well established that it is unlikely to be overturned. The creationists and IDiots have failed to overturn anything in some 20 years of propaganda (not scientific study, certainly). All of the religions have intellectual inertia far greater than science. Even with beautiful stories like Tiktaalik around people still claim there are no transitional fossils.
"However, the theory of evolution is so incredibly well established that it is unlikely to be overturned."
Overturned? How about substantially modified? How about many new discoveries that are surprises and change our understanding? Given our fairly recent history (birds, not reptiles more like dinosaurs) I expect we will see many revisions. That's why I say the principle of natural selection is well proven, but every detail of the theory of evolution isn't.
Matur1n, we are in agreement that there will be new discoveries, such as the spectacular one that birds are dinosaurs. However, this does not change the underlying theory at all, that's working out the history on earth. The basic theory of evolution - reproduction with variation and selection - is done. That concept should apply to life elsewhere in the universe. It's like knowing that a ball flies in a parabola, but not the exact course of a pitch in a baseball game.
basic theory of evolution - reproduction with variation and selection-is done"
That's natural selection, which is just a part of the theory of evolution. We've seen many different changes in the theory since it was first proposed & will see more.
"concept should apply to life elsewhere in the universe"
Why? Evolution shows that life, witrh its almost computer like DNA has the ability to respond to changes in its environment. I don't see where that translates to non-life forms at all.
No, there are several 'steps' to evolution. One is reproduction. The reproduction invariably has errors which leads to variation. Reproduction is also exponential and so leads to competition for resources. That is where 'natural selection' comes in - some variants are better fitting the current environment and survive better. All of this is the theory of evolution. As for it applying elsewhere - life reproduces and so all the above hold. It does not hold for non-life.
As for slavery, I beg to differ. The bible could easily have had a commandment 'thou shalt not keep slaves'. If it is the word of god, then it would have to be obeyed. But no, slavery is allowed, ie, condoned. Jesus did politically incorrect things so doing this would not have been inconsistent.
Why do you people insist on a color by number GOD? does God have to spell every thing out for you? Gods word said LOVE your Neighbor. Many Christians "bought" slaves and allowed them to live as free people on their land.. nice of you to point out those christians too.

So you are saying all religions more more correct than science for the 100s of years until the Big Bang was discovered.
