  • Can this be used on 7075 aluminum? I'm interested in flat aluminum cutting and whatever the machine is capable of. I'm an avid RC car guy so I'm always looking for ways to fab my own parts. I don't want to spend thousands but 1 to 2k max. Any help you can give me would be appreciated.

  • You can but it will take a long time to mill something small. I recently made a water block for cooling using aluminum. I forget which kind it was. It was most likely the softer aluminum. It took many hours. It's doable, but be prepared to wait for hours and replace broken bits. Make sure you only use a two or single flute bit or else the aluminum will get stuck on the bit and then break. I learned this the hard way... But its a lot of fun..

  • This is an awesome video! Much like you, ive never owned a cnc machine and don't have much experience with any sort of engineering machinery. But after seeing how easy this looked I think its going to be the next thing I buy.

You said that you got a bad controller. Was it the controller that was causing the pencil lines to get lighter and darker on the x-axis or was that definately a leveling problem? or was the bad controller just causing the z-axis to get stuck?

    Thanks again for the video

  • leveling problem...

the controller was bad, seller is sending me a new one.

  • Go into the motor tuning setup for mach3 and adjust your z axis settings. This should cure your problem there.

  • yeah i actually got a bad cnc controller and i'm in the process of getting a replacement

  • did the new controller solved your problem?? I have the same problem but on the X axis. How could your controller caused this leveling problem?

  • I was thinking of getting one of these but Im not sure if its up to the task of cutting sheet aluminum. I think the router RPM is to fast for cutting metal so I will probably buy a mini milling machine and convert it to CNC. Thanks for the video.

  • Hi, how do you like the sable till now?

  • (ran out of space in last comment) 4) The Fireball V90 is $599 without stepper motors. The Sable kit on ebay is $499 with steppers! But it does not include mini miller, miller\router motor mount, and controller board. Where did you get these parts, there seems to be an overwhelming amount of controller boards on the internet. Thanks again, sorry for all the questions.

  • Nice video! I have some questions; I am a total newbie on CNCs. I am a hoping to make PCBs also. I was hoping you answer some annoying newbie questions :) . 1) Did you also look into the Fireball V90 kit? I am trying to decide between the two. 2) Did you figure out how to level the cutting table? 3) Do you have any links to message board post you have made, I could learn a lot from the process you have already gone through instead of asking the questions over again.
