Cool!

Totally fascinating! We found a small nest, but not sure who it belongs to. It is empty now anyway and we won't be able to identify the owner.
Thanks so much for sharing this.

@1963impala2dr Re Blue Heron
The one I saw almost gave me a heart attack, I was riding my bike across a small bridge over a canal and the bird came flapping up from the canal about five feet away, a big bird too, seemed like a 8' wing span it was so close that I could see individual feathers in its left wing doing their job. Crikey Mate what a hoot...!!!

Awesome shots, Ken! Thanks so much for keeping us updated on the little one? Ditto to chris95069..... the other two eggs didn't make it?

@thoeckel there were three in the beginning. rollofnickles researched it and found that some species only raise one hatchling..and only one.. he thinks someone else laid a couple of eggs in the nest.. I dont think so..I watched her build it..its hers! I think she tossed out the other two eggs to get the numbers right.. but.. who knows!! im no hummingbirdologist! . haha

Excellent video, you took the time to do this with out disturbing the bird to much. We do not get a lot of small exotic birds like that up here but seeing a Snowy Owl and a blue Heron up close on the Island of Montreal was a treat, and ducks breed in the river 2 blocks away.

@ericallandale thanks for watching.. one day last summer there was a blue heron sitting in a tree by my house staring at my fish!! folks who have koi ponds down along the columbia river have to put an arbor over them or the herons will clean them out!
