Definitely linear :P Freedom of choice is not Portal's strong point. But it's a Puzzle game after all, not an RPG.
Kinda odd that you found those awful servers, though.They usually get cleaned up quickly, and most of the times the price for hacking is getting your own account banned, so only a few people attempt that. If you want my advice, don't drop TF2. It's a really fun game, and 99% of the servers are awesome. For PC, at least. I believe the Console version is pretty much dead.

@Zeghart Alright, alright. I'll let you have hit when it comes to Portal. I had some fun with it at least. Just a bit linear, you know? Anyway, just to be honest the last few servers I played on (don't remember the names), there were people floating around, running with superspeed, and aimbotting. That's what happened to me, and I'm a little sore over it. I'll just drop it. To every man his own.

Oh, and Portal isn't really any kind of excuse. It was pretty much an experiment, a short game put together as a bonus for the Orange Box. Even if it was only a little game, it received major critical acclaim and the sequel is now a full AAA title.
For TF2...where do you play, exactly? On Console?
I play TF2 on PC quite frequently and the only hacking I've ever seen are aimbots, and even those are really rare, I could count the times I've found people hacking on one hand.

It's the other way around.
Usually console games ported to PC have absolute shit controls.
That every Console game has shit targeting compared to any PC game is quite normal, frankly.
Keyboard & Mouse > Controller for pretty much anything but fighting games.
For Minecraft, they're developing a simplified - VERY simplified, almost idiot-proof - UI just for the controller. It's way easier to develop controls for a controller than for a Keyboard, even if they're not as precise.
