Lionel 6-38083 Norfolk & Western 2-8-8-2 Y-3 Steam Locomotive - TMCC - kgtrains - ebay

During World War I, the United States Railroad Administration based its 2-8-8-2 Mallet type on a Norfolk & Western design. After receiving their allotment of 50 USRA 2-8-8-2 locomotives in 1919, the N & W refined them further into their Y-3 class. They served on Appalachian rails through the 1950s. In 1943 the Pennsylvania Railroad acquired six N & W Y-3s to help move freight on congested wartime mainlines. The second-hand locomotives even received the distinctive Pennsy keystone numberplate. Both versions include an all-new, prototypical 18,000 gallon fishbelly tender with a lighted brakemans doghouse. Each scale-sized model also includes upgrades from previous 2-8-8-2 releases, including synchronized fan-driven smoke and the all-new RailSounds 5.0 sound system. They also feature more separately applied details including whistle and bell cords, opening roof hatches, opening tender water hatches that reveal RailSounds controls, and even a separate coal load.

  • @kgtrains I know you have one I think I added you as a friend.

  • @southern4501isawesom - Lionel got really burned on HO in the 60s, I don't think they would try it again. MTH is still trying the HO market. Trouble is so much cheaper HO is on the market its hard for MTH and Lionel to complete with the low-cost high-volume HO makers.

  • @adfgfds yeah they should make ho steam ... and ho scale legacy...

  • it looks wierd going around those sharp turns

  • I have a question how come you never show the smoke unit on?

  • @kgtrains You should make a Facebook page.

  • Its really too bad Lionel doesn't make this sound system for HO scale as well. Its sound REALLY GOOD
