Having known John, and played with him, both on and off the bandstand, since we were in our early teens, I can say with total confidence that he is one of the few "pure artists" in our world. Even as a kid, developing his musicianship, he was always seeking new goals, and new horizons. Though our musical paths differed, he never "sold out." Perhaps I should mention that John was also a brilliant "southpaw" pitcher. It's a privilege to still call him a friend.
