A contemporary setting for the Responsorial Psalm for the fifth week of Lent in the USCCB Lectionary, cycle A. Though performed with only two voices and one guitar accompanying, the piece was written for, and has been very successful with leading a congregational prayer over the Psalm. Though the rights are reserved, you may obtain free and immediate permission to use this setting in your church, as well as free and immediate copies of the .pdf files of the music, containing words, melody, and chord symbols by asking.

I began writing only Psalm refrains in the late 70's and early 80's, and recited, rather than sang verses, with instrumental music. That was, until one of my pastors reminded me that these were psalms, sung from the days of the temple and needed to be sung (Thank you Fr. Jim Quinn) This psalm had been one of the first refrains I had written and had always used the same instrumental for the verse. I wrote the verse melody to fit the instrumental in 1990, and began to write verses for all my Psalm refrains from that day. This psalm has a special nostalgic and spiritual place for me for that reason.
