@BlueLeopard200 captivating actors are rare, you need a face that emotes the right range of emotions appropriate for the time

@BlueLeopard200 No. To me, it's all about how realistic the person is. I personally don't think ANY old actors were brilliant. They were all the same, said their lines dramatically, and all that crap. Anyone can act fine with a lot of training, but some people are just really good at portraying emotion. Not everyone can do that.

Sad that when you say Marlon Brando everyone thinks of an old fat man. He was an amazing actor.

@BlueLeopard200 There is a bit more to it than that, but you're right, acting is one of the most self-congratulatory occupations you can possibly do. Undoubtably there are some absolutely fantastic performances, and some fantastic actors, but at the same time there are a lot of people who get paid millions and either just remember their lines, or just play themselves in their movies. Shia LeBouef comes to mind.

Yeah, cuz De Niro and Pacino and Edward Norton and are just sooo awful. Awww the good old days son, let me tell you.... blah, blah, blah. Streetcar Named Desire is the only movie that really holds up to any of the modern greats like Godfather, Mean Streets, American History X. Keep up Grandpa haha!
