thats so funny i know exactly where they are! its Bally's the slot machine manufacturer and largest pinball machine maker. its actually not in chicago but a nearby suburb.

@MarsHottentot It's because the higher frequency of the female voice required twice the bit space on the voice chip. It was a practical issue dealing with the technology of the day not a sexist issue. I grew up in the 80's - women weren't considered 'less than' in America to the degree you suggest.

It's kind of ridiculous, and not a little embarrassing, that women were so considered 'less than' in America even in the 80's that the idea of a female voice in a pinball game seemed absolutely radical.
