This legendary 1969 Dodge Charger Daytona was the first stock car to exceed the coveted 200 mph barrier - a record it broke at Talladega in 1970! Legendary team owner Cotton Owens and race-winning stock car driver Buddy Baker were responsible for the remarkable achievement in this winged super speedway contender. This legendary vehicle is now set for the starting grid at RM Auctions Icons of Speed & Style event, September 26 at the Petersen Automotive Museum, Los Angeles, CA. Beautiful car. It's a shame officials decided that it would no longer embarass the bow ties and blue ovals.

There was a show about resto engine builders that built the 426 hemi, a Ford FE 427, Chevy 427, a Pontiac 421, exactly to the cam grinds and other specs as they were produced. They ran a Daytona(test mule No 88) up to 243mph at the Chelsea,Michigan test track in 69...btw,they made a lot more than 425hp too...probably 650hp or so...Nascar ruled the Aerocars could only have engines up to 305ci...Adam Kyle was spot on...these cars were just too fast.

There is no way that 3800 lbs, 425 hp car from 1969 made it to 200 mph. No way.

Wonder if this could have lights put on it so it would be streetable...its considered antique by Texas rules so not much would have to be done...this would be interesting to see going down 635...
