With the goal of making classical ballet relevant for a new generation of audiences, artistic director Stanton Welch has put his 21st century signature on this 19th love story. Set to the hauntingly beautiful Tchaikovsky score, Swan Lake tells the classic tale of Odette - a beautiful maiden transformed into a swan by an evil knight - and the prince who swears his enduring love for her. It's good and evil in black and white, danced on rich and spectacular sets by the late, great Australian designer Kristian Fredrikson.

Performed by Artists of Houston Ballet.

  • Hey Houston Ballet!

I saw this production of Swan Lake a couple of years ago, and it really blew me away! Unfortunately, I had nosebleed seats, so I was missing half of the gorgeous sets and some of the choreography. Do you sell DVDs of your productions???

  • Unfortunately we don't sell DVDs. We'll perform Swan Lake June 11-21, 2009, and great seats on the floor level start at $50!

  • jbostis, you are wrong in expecting the Dying Swan solo to be in Swan Lake. Dying Swan is part of a whole other ballet called the Carnival of Animals. It has, and never will be a part of Swan Lake.

  • plodding version without style

  • It has been my dream to see the Nutcracker at the Houston Ballet! That dream will come true this weekend for my birthday. I can't wait!

  • Excellent little svans!!

  • why aren't they on pointe?? or rather falling back off the inner edge of their shoes??????

  • Since seeing HB's Swan Lake on the 6/13/09, I keep replaying it in my head. It is so great to have this video to actually again see a high point!

  • What's with the end of this dance? I saw the ballet today and the end of 4 swan's dance was different from the classic

Costumes were great, great stage, however I didn't like the dragon and robot-like looking friends of Rothbart- too much of computer games?! Actually the whole ballet is far from the original classic ballet. Looks more like Rnaissance Fest... A lot of special effects, and less ballet...where is dying swan dance? where is the classical scenes?..

  • omg fablulous...but it would be so more entertaining if they smiled

  • this so amazing my friends and i practice it whenever we can i love it
