  • hi nice video, i am into old vws myself, i have 2 beetles 1 1956 oval 1962 for parts with good engine and gearbox and a 67 type 2 split screen campervan. a couple of years ago i had a problem one of the spark plugs in my 67 type 2 camper popped out of its place as i was driving 1 day. i was told by a mechanic this was due to somebody over tightening the plug as these engines have very short threadings and threadings get worn when the plug is over tightened,

  • @MrHetherton Hi and thanks for the feedback! over tightening of the plug can cause this as the plug thread is only 1/2" deep; also overheating can cause this aswell as incorrect timing.

  • Yes this true but i have always adjusted valves on the firing stroke(for the past 20 years!) and i will continue to do so. thanks for your comment. Neil

  • this is the way i like to do it. but i do the intake at .005 and the exhaust at .006. never had problem. it seems like no one has heard of doing it this way. its so easy. ive been doind it this way since highschool.

  • great, video very nicely done.

  • iv herd a lot of mixed ways of adjusting the valves some say do them hot some say cold also if the gap in plugs change do the gap in valves change thanks

  • are those clearances the same for the 1600cc dual port engine ? .006/0.15

  • your videos have been useful as i have just built a 1679cc engine, many thanks keep up the good work. chris

  • Very helpful video! no fuss just good stuff

  • You don`t have to turn engine over so many times!

You can adjust 4 valves and then rotate 360 degrees and adjust the rest 4.
