I often wear t-shirts that can be considered more a masculine type, but I do the same thing with those that I do with my pants.
I personally believe that you can be an androgyne and be male and wear guyish clothing. It's really about how you feel inside. ^_^
There are many different aspects to gender- I for one, use mannerisms to express myself more.

Fascinating insights.

I think you would enjoy reading about the Gnostic views of reality. One of the main themes in Gnosticism is unification of the male and female mind.

The word more likely originates with the noun 'androgyny' which must be Greek. The adjective 'androgynous' probably derives from the noun as well.

Excellent presentation.

Personally, my clothing is a mix of the two ends of the spectrum as well.
Since I am female by sex- or at least look that way (won't get into intersex stuff and whatnot) I've found that I do indeed mix my clothing to look like how I feel. My clothing may not look "androgynous," in fact, some people think I am a crossdresser, when I'm not.
I wear more masculine clothing- but usually in a feminine form. Like, my pants are guy's pants and they have lil feminine touches to them.
It's damned hard to take on an androgynous appearance and hold a regular job or live in a conservative town. And it's very irritating to have someone correct my behavior and lecture me on how to express myself. I've been told that I don't have the right "balance" - meaning I'm not acting masculine enough. There are just some things you can't explain to people. They either understand or else they are clueless.

@prschuster
I live in a predominantly conservative town and held down a job in arcade machine repair for a couple of years and have never had any problems.
I think it might depend on how you "carry" yourself.
If you look as though you feel comfortable in yourself other people respect that.
Most people don't seem to care why I look the way I do... they just accept me for who I am.
