This is definitely a 2nd or early 3rd quarter 1987 opening. I saw an opening from a February 1987 episode and Max hadn't been added yet.

Only difference between the December 1984 and the January 1985-early '86 instrumentals was that the December '84 edition was backed up mostly by electronic bass and electric guitars and was not as orchestral-souding as the January 1985-early '86 edition if you listen to those two versions really closely.

I remember this opening, I was 7 years old when it came on. this theme is my personal favorite I remember when I use to tune it just for the this song, this song is deer to me because that was when I was the happiest little kid and one of my best moment of my life.
