My friend Jason continues showing me around Hamtramck, Michigan. We explore more structures that have the perfect bones for modern living. What's more, many buildings are zoned for dual use (retail and residential). Mixed use housing in newer Detroit is almost non-existent. Listen to the dialogue as J shares true stories of friends who turn properties around for less than $100K (including renovations), making them worthy of a spot in Dwell Magazine. I think Eric and I might like to open a bicycle shop (www.speedstudiodesign.com).
Hamtramck is home of 99Design (http://www.visitdesign99.com/) and The Power House Project (http://www.powerhouseproject.com/), a fully sustainable house for under $99,000. Check out both for inspiration.
