Our opponent has taken the most extreme position possible by advocating for cutting and privatizing Social Security and gambling your retirement away on Wall Street. We shouldn't be surprised since he was a corporate lawyer for a credit card company fined for ripping off consumers as well as a Wall Street bank that got $25 billion in bailout money. He'd rather give your money to his friends on Wall Street than protect your retirement benefits. Social Security is your money. Not David Harmer's.
Salt Lake Tribune, 2/22/96 B1:
"Harmer said he wants to go to Congress to finish the job the Republicans started when they became the majority in the power-shifting elections of 1994.
He would cut federal spending, starting with the four biggest items: Social Security, interest on the national debt, national defense and entitlements such as Medicare and Medicaid ... Social Security needs to be privatized, Harmer said, while the national debt can be reduced by pay-as-you-go balanced budgets. "
