HERE'S TO JOAN BLONDELL! In honor of her August 30th birthday, and in rapt anticipation of her biography (to be released Oct. '07), I've assembled my 20 or so favorite Joan Blondell moments. To keep the tone consistent, I've focused primarily on her black-and-white films from the 1930s (maybe I'll do a color tribute montage next year). It was incredibly tough to decide which clips from her fantastic career to include, and I'll apologize in advance for leaving out your favorite. The montage includes scenes from Three on a Match, Gold Diggers of 1933, Dames, Millie, Blonde Crazy, East Side of Heaven, The Stand-In, Bullets or Ballots, Nightmare Alley, Night Nurse, and Topper Returns. I drew from some only a few seconds of material (Topper Returns), while I went to others more than once (GD33 & Millie). Joan Blondell was so vivacious and had such brilliant comedic timing; it was difficult for her not to steal every scene in which she appeared. In my eyes, she's one of the best!

  • This is possibly the best thing I have ever seen on youtube.

  • Wow! Thank you so much for the compliment. It's hard to go wrong with Joan Blondell footage!

  • What a beautifully done tribute, showing that Joan Blondell could sing, dance, do comedy AND drama.

    --Thank you Temperance, loved it:)

  • Thanks for watching, addiefleur. I appreciate your comment. She had such an amazing range of talent.

  • Wow. That's screen presence!!! Who do we have now? Jennifer Aniston (Coughs up hairball)

  • exactly!!

Did you hear that they're remaking "The Women?" Meg Ryan will play Mary. Meg Ryan is no Norma Shearer, to say the least.

  • This is so well done. Joan is my favourite actress. She was so vivacious and versatile and should be acknowledged as one of the all time greats. Thanks for putting this together.

  • Very nicely done! What a great tribute to a great actress. I would have love to have known her. She has a great way of bringing characters to life.

  • Thanks for the video, she is an amazing woman.. I'm glad to be her great grand daughter <3

  • This was a MAJOR talent, a real beauty, and she had a voice that was "choice" for the talkies... Warner Brothers KNEW that they had a gold mine in this one... She was so good, so gifted, really... and because she was so just naturally EXCELLENT at what she did, she seems somehow overlooked by film historians, in a way (hardly ever nominated for an Oscar, for example)...

If anybody like her hit the scene today, the media would fawn, I'm sure!... Kudos galore to this great, great STAR!!

  • i love this!! She was amazing and so talented. I think partly why I love her is because she just looks like a good time; you know you'd have fun around her! Thank you for making this!

  • You did a very good job with this! My niece looks a lot like her, so it was nice to share this.

  • Lets try to remember here this Christmas RIP Joan 12-25-79
