I have had the concept of this video in mind for a couple of years. It's the drawing together of many threads. On one hand it's a continuation of my portraits of decaying architecture started with "Derelict". It's also the first step on the road of expanding my video work away from landscapes & still life towards the inclusion of a more human element.

The idea is quite simple I had some ideas for movement and setting inspired by "Lust for a Vampire" and "Nosferatu", coupled with some software I had written to give the model a transparent/ghostly appearance. The only problems were that I had no model, and no suitable location. It started to look like this idea could reach fruition with a chance meeting with the lovely alt model "syntheticdarkness" at a Summer Solstice gathering at Avebury. Not only was she dressed in exactly the costume that I had in mind, but she also knew of a suitable location: the splendid abbey ruins at Netley. Suddenly all the parts had simply fallen into place.

Thanks so much Amy.

  • If this Ghost is for real. Brilliant.

But just one thing, I did'ent think Ghosts cast shadows!

  • @1949bern - Valid point! - Hastily brushed over! :P

  • Great music and video.

  • @dronespace Thanks.

  • Omg This is amazing. The effects are immense, I really need to know how you do that. Well done, mate, that was some seriously good affects!!

  • It's quite easy really. Each scene has a bit of video at the start of it with just the background. All I had to do was cut just one frame out of this background and super-impose it at 50% transparency over each frame of that video segment... erm... does that make any sense at all.

  • yh i got a feeling how you do it now, if not ill get my dad to help me! Lol! Thanxs a bunch! :D

  • lol, sweet effects, but wen they get close, its kinda ovvy, its the normal person..

  • yh i saw the second ghost two that one was freaky!!!!!

  • Like I've said before. It's supposed to be fake. It's art - it's not Hollywood (goth forbid) and it's not paranormal research.

Yeah, sunlight is a meanie - casting it's shadows all over the place - damn the big yellow hurty thing.

But, bearing in mind that ghosts are a fictitious construct - they have no objective properties beyond those made up by the artist. So if I think they're allowed to have tenuous shadows (OK, so this shadow isn't exactly tenuous) then they can.
