An acoustic version of a song which was written by an Englishman Thomas Bayly in 1833, and which in 1843 was the most popular song in the United States. There are three verses and I have only sung two of them. I first heard this song sung by Marty Robbins, whose magnificent tenor voice could sing a ballad as few others could.
The theme is similar here to that of Roseville Fair and invites us to nostalgia and all the immense pleasure that goes with it. It is my sincere hope that my version will be understood just for what it is - gratitude for beautiful memories. And I trust that those, who do me the honor of listening to this, will enjoy remembering too.

  • Love this one Tim - So pretty. You have done a beautiful job, my friend. Loved it. Thanks for sharing. Gwen

  • @cadjunk The composer hit the nail on the head with the universality of his nostalgic words. The diction was made a clear as I could manage, and the song had a distinct reference for me in my younger days.

  • Dear Margaret,

What you recommended was what I did, and kept working and picking until I got a result which seemed to me to be acceptable. I'm very pleased that you enjoyed the song. What the next one will be, I am not sure, perhaps a song I heard Joan Baez sing many years ago, and which could be given just a smattering of pedal steel and some harmonics. However, I shall have to write the solo. We shall see.

In the meantime, it is extremely rewarding to learn that you enjoyed the song.

    Tim.
