It doesn't make much sense to me that a disc (if made to the specified standards) wouldn't be legal just because it could add more distance. The difference between top players and amateurs is that while amateurs (like me) may hit 500+ feet, they aren't as consistent, don't throw up shots as well, and don't putt as well. Top pros will remain on top and the game advances and becomes more fun. Just my opinion though.

@hurmave I agree that it should be legal. I don't know much about the ninja but it seems to me that disc companies will continue to come out with better and further flying discs. The game must adapt to those discs. People are maximizing disc capabilities when throw backhand. All Aerobie did was recognize that ppl throw overhand and alter the aerodynamics to suit that style. Just like some ppl throw backhands further than others, some ppl throw epics further too. Fair enough. Limits to each.

I´m just thinking.. If the epic is kind of "shortcut" to far distance overhead drives, why the Ninja is still a bit like "no no" ?
I haven´t personally tried the gateway Ninja yet, but i´ve heard its quite a flyer.. Could think it simiraly kind of "shortcut" for those who hasn´t got that much power for backhand or forehand.. I think it should also be legal.
But this is just me wondering, a bit offtopic and so... :) no big deal

@loinclothe I see your point.. And if you think about it, the Epic is perhaps one of the most difficult disc to control, especially if it´s windy. So perhaps it kind of brings the balance between ordinary discs and epic. Its great in some cases, and doesn´t need that much power to get it fly far distaces thrown overhead, but overall it isn´t that practical.
My Champ Orc is still my favorite overhead driver, keep it in the bag just for those accurate long drives. I suggest trying one out if you're a thumber-heavy player.

@blahk1234454 I actually tomahawk an orc on an island hole on one of my home courses. It's really consistent and doesn't take much effort to get it there.

A bit offtopic, but just got in mind:
I wonder how the Aerobie Epic has still the PDGA approvement, and the other hand for example, the Gateway Ninja doesn´t. (Im not really sure, but heard that the main reason why Gateway Ninja is illegal is its got too wide rim) The Epic is (IMO) much more weird disc, and has a rim which, is even more wide (despite the eccentric desing)
In these (not so offical usually) overhead-thrown distance competitions the Aerobie Epic is often banned...

@hurmave Well, I don't really know how it all works. But as far as I know, the Epic was grandfathered into PDGA approval. Maybe it was originally accepted and managed to keep it's status even after rules were changed?
I'd say that the Epic should be legal. It's weird yes, but it just caters to a certain thrower. People who are really strong backhanders or side-armers get discs that they can throw 600 feet or so. So why wouldn't a disc that superior overhanders can throw that far be legal?
