Out of the 12 major models, 9 use Twelve Step programs in some way, shape or form, as do 93% of treatment centers. As an ED physician, I'm sick of seeing the results of this failure of an approach on a daily basis. Faith healing has had its chance; lets give evidence based treatment a try!

Doug is a glorious cunt. He makes claims about "junk science" and then goes on to discredit the theory of addiction based on... no fucking science whatsoever. Also, Dr. Drew himslef talks about 12-step programs as being an integral part of a more complete treatment that includes therapy, nutrition, lifestyle changes, etc. He also very eloquently discusses how to utilize the 12-step program even if you don't believe in God. Cunt, cunt, glorious cunt.

Being a Psychiatrist means you've read a certain amount of literature & technical data concerning the relative effectiveness & risks of modern pharmaceutical products, and you have the arbitrary authority to allow certain people to consume these pharmaceuticals. If we needed a prescription from a car mechanic to buy motor oil & windshield wiper fluid you would think something's wrong with that ridiculous situation, but people just accept, like sheep, that Psychiatrists are uniquely qualified...
