In the wee hours of July 24, 2009, the Assembly voted down a deal between environmentalists, the County of Santa Barbara and PXP oil company. In exchange for permission to drill in state waters from a rig parked in federal waters, PXP would have torn down the platform and three others in 14 years, close all processing facilities in S.B. County, and donate 4,000 acres of land for an environmental preserve. Santa Barbara County would have received $300 million in property tax revenue, the state at least $1.5 billion in royalties, possibly as much as $5 billion. After the vote, the Assembly rescinded the action so the bill may come up again in August. The budget deal passed that night is already out of balance so doing this deal could prevent more cuts to the budget.
They should fire the lot of them who voted no. Seems like they want the state to collapse. Don't people realize that it takes much time to go green????

(chuckle) "to try and rescue birds".... Cause with a governmental financial meltdown already happening.... you need to remeber the birds.... REMEMBER THE BIRDS!!!! OH GOD, WHAT ABOUT THE BIRDS!!!!! Hey California, maybe you should start a new bird reserve, pump 20 million into it, then pay it back with the tax revenue you'll get from your "green jobs" that you'll be getting soon with your stimulus money. =)

The Republican Assembly member Fuller stated that she would like an oil well on a high school campus in her district and was envious of Beverly Hills High and their oil well is a classic moment in stupidity.
