Krysztof Penderecki, Quartetto per archi No.1

All kinds of sound possibilities are demonstrated in this string quartet: stroking, plucking or striking of one or several strings simultaneously; playing in the area between or on the instruments bridge and the tailpiece; also different possibilities for tremolo and vibrato. Every part of this very carefully formed quartet is characterized by a clearly perceptible type of sound or timbre and combinations thereof and of notated and free pitches and percussive effects. The tempo is indicated in seconds, with each segment lasting one second, marked by a barline.

Hmm.. Penderecki is one of those composers I just can't get into. I guess I'm not much of a fan of extended techniques

Basically just non-traditional ways of playing instruments (a better example would be prepared piano or something). This is an interesting piece, certainly, and I'm not saying it's bad, but I'm having difficulty seeing anything worthwhile in it (no offense)
