You didn't say anything about the director's name: Alex Proyas. He directed also "The crow". He has Greek roots (i know it because i am Greek also). "Dark City" is a brilliantly dark movie!!!
yes i must say that all the actors were cast for the right part. however for me, Richard O'Brien's portrayal of Mr.Hand was above all the rest. And all The Strangers were modelled after him so in a way, he's the leader although in the actual film, Mr.Book is. And I love Mr.Sleep, barely talks but loved it when he said "Kill Him", which started a loud chant. But Mr.Hand, I cannot get over him.
Dark City is so under-appreciated, i cannot being to say how bad i feel 4 all involved in the film
This movie rocks...I watched it for the first time few days back and picked up the blu ray the next day for my own collection. Before Matrix there was 'Dark City'.
Anyone with 1/2 a brain that actually watches Dark city realizes how incredible it is. It is one of my favorite films of all time. I saw it in the theater when it came out. William Hurt gave a brilliantly subdued performance. I am a scifi fan, and it is the best scifi movie made in the last 30 years. Also Roger Ebert was such a big fan of the movie, he did the commentary on the DVD.
I thought this was such a thought provoking movie with a high degree of artistic style. For example, I liked the subtle way of briefly seeing one of the vague and abstract looking aliens within the mind of one of the "strangers" as the camera zooms into the human eye. So haunting by conservatively using the effects in a very pure and poetic way.
What really struck me as hysterically funny is all the people who said how "deep" the matrix is, how they love it for the "intellectual" content, yet have little to no interest in a movie almost solely about the ideas they perport to love.
ALSO: The film borrows heavily from the gothic art deco style born of the early 90s Batman AMS.
The Directors Cut is a lot better imo

I think a strong influence for "Dark City" is the allegory of the cave of Plato ('Matrix" have the same influence).

Dark City is the best movie I have seen in my life so far, and I've seen them...
Glad that I'm not not the only one who's amazed by it.
