Some friends and I went out to High Plains Raceway for an open lapping day. HPR is a new racing facility located about 60 miles east of Denver, CO. This track is amazing, it has alot of elevation changes, great technical corners and a pretty long straight to test your wits. There were a huge variety of cars out there that day, mostly purpose-built race cars, but there were a few of us out in our daily drivers. I had fun following this Cobra around for a session, mostly just to hear the motor. Check out the Race Prepped Porsche at the end, I was going 120 mph when he passed me.

  • What were your lap times in this video?

  • @mrwonkothesane42 Not sure, wasn't timing. This was my first visit to HPR in 2009 and I was learning the track. I usually run around 2:05 - 2:06 there now though.

  • @hammerevo Ok, cool. I was just wondering. I am headed out there this sunday in my 2010 evo x.

This will be my second time, and I was hoping to find some vids of people with good racing lines as my first lap at the track was an awful 2:21 :P

One thing i noticed is that i slow down a LOT at the end of the straight, where as it appears most evos never drop below 75mph around that turn. I think i am just over breaking and too soon at that....

  • @mrwonkothesane42 Well it is a pretty technical track and takes awhile to learn. If you are interested, check out NASA Rocky Mountain. I run Time Trials and instruct with them. We have an event in late August at HPR with HPDE, Time Trials and racing. You can sign up for HPDE and get an instructor to work with you all day, and it's not much more than an open lapping day.

  • @hammerevo Will do. I will save up some cash and sign up in the next two weeks.... since it will be my third time out there, should i go for HPDE 3? PCA has been teaching me passing and instructors have been taking me around the track showing me the lines...

  • @mrwonkothesane42 How many track days have you had? If it were me, I would sign up for HPDE 1 and get some more instruction. HPDE 1 and 2 run together so you might as well have an instructor. Keep in mind too that if you are ready to move up from group 1 we can pass you and move you up anytime after the first session. Group 3 is quite a bit more advanced and you would need to be placed there by the Chief instructor for your first event. I can give you his email if that's what you want to do.

  • datsun 510 for me please.

  • Well that would be a fun car to have, but I love my Evo man. I think the only car I would rather have is a GTR.

  • Yea it a old 240z , they have always been my favorite in the Z series. picked up a runner with slight damage for $1200.

You should have bought one and but in a LS1 for the price of that Evo. :)
