The Lexington Art League presents two exhibits that explore identity, investigate transformation and celebrate the courage required for individuality.
Passing: Fashioning Drag draws on the rich history of drag in Central Kentucky and includes a gallery exhibition and two nights of drag performances. The exhibition highlights the art of drag costuming through photographs by Kremena Todorova and Kurt Gohde and gowns made by Lexington designer Patryq Howell.
Alternate Selves explores the transformative power of costume and investigates issues of personal identity through disguises, adornment, garments, and masks. Themes of culture, gender, memory and history emerge as compelling avenues for reflection providing us a view of what can be seen when intentionally hidden.
The exhibits are sponsored by Dr. Nick Kouns and presented in partnership with Lexington Fairness and the Imperial Court of Kentucky.
