Here at Chandler Herefords, we halter break all of the bulls for sale each year and all of the breeding replacement heifers going back into the herd. The procedure is as follows: 1.Separate cows from calves 2.Pen all calves tight enough such that th...ey cant run while each calf receives a halter 3.Calves with halters to moved to pens with enough space to tie up 4.Work and tie each calf calmly 5. Leave tied all day 6.Untie calves calmly in afternoon 7.repeat steps 1-6 second day (this video was taken on day 2 therefore calmer calves than the first day)

  • About how old are the calf when you began to halter break them?

And also how long would it take to halter break a Angus if you have ever worked with Angus?

  • @Mr14NYM15 Thanks for your question. We halter break the calves in the early fall at about 5 to 6 months of age. I have worked with some Angus cattle. They are a little quicker to get upset but it would still work the same. The whole key to halter breaking is to try to capture and handle the cattle with the least amount stress. As long as the person handling catle is calm, then the calves will be calmer. Hope this answers your question. Thanks

  • @dcpro1970 do u guys show your cattle

  • @herefordfitter Yes we show cattle from time to time. The last was 2 years ago in Billings and Reno. We plan to show again soon. Not sure how many yet but we will have the cattle out next year.

  • First off, good job! And when you halter break them, how long do you work with them each day? Because for the first time i am going to halter break one of our scottish highland calves. My dads friend shows his cows and will help me and im also looking on the internet.

  • @dcpro1970 thank you very much the response and great cattle you have
