  • Sadly, Mussorgsky was a terrible alcoholic. It killed him at an early age. Rimsky-Korsakov was his orchestrator, and later, Shostakovich. But Mussorgsky was still a brilliant, original composer, who just got by with a little help from his friends.

I'm so glad you're enjoying this precious and rare film from Vera Stroeva, the Soviet film director who also made an immortal Boris Godunov w/ Pirogov, and Bolshoi Concert.

  • Such dark recesses: "Kill the Apostates!" Then, "I grant you a pardon go back to your homes." Great to hear The Whole Opera on YouTube. Finally, debunks the myth of Moussorgsky as a drunk, and Cui as his "orchestrator"! BRAVI!
