The Passengers album was a brilliant beautiful album. I've always loved it. One of the best things that U2 ever did

I'm glad it exists, I'm glad they went full-speed ahead with some experimentation and saw where it landed. Now we don't have to wonder what could've been. It's not a great album, too little variation and it sometimes feels a bit clueless as to where it wants to go but there are some interesting tracks there. Your Blue Room, Miss Sarajevo and Slug for instance are pretty darn good.

@macphistomo i was going to write the exact same thing but you said it for me.. seems a long time ago now doesn't it.......

I still listen to POP, but listened to PASSENGERS maybe twice. Totally agree w/Larry, "art for art's sake;" it ends up just being artistic masturbation.

For me pop was a good album, But another 6 months in the studio with eno/lanois it would have been a brilliant album.

I love Passengers. I think they should do another one. Lighten up on the hits, lads.

Agree, Always forever haves an incredible percussion line, same for one minute warning.

Looking back, I really like the Passengers album. It's like Radiohead-esque before Radiohead starting that type of style. It just shows U2's flexibility. I do agree with Larry though, it was too artsy, and too egotistical.

I actually love this little bickering between Bono and Larry especially how Bono tells him to get out of the left side of his brain. lol
btw I loved POP
Original Soundtracks Volume 1 is an amazing album in all it's bliss and electronic glory. Too bad Larry is not a progressive individual. U2 in the 90's is still the best period for the band because they got out of it's own shell and dared to draw on a bigger canvas. Achtung Baby, Original Soundtracks Volume 1 and specially Zooropa is U2 at the top of it's game. All thanks to Mr. Brian Eno. Larry was adamant about letting Eno direct them again for POP and we all know what happened.

Yes, it's unfortunate that they stopped working with Eno and then had to rush it out to tour with POP Mart. It's a very incomplete album full of great ideas, some worked, others had potential but never materialized into a concrete form. It could have been amazing. Still, Please brings me to my knees. Wink Wink. Amazing song.
