I participated in the first day of Occupy Houston. These are some of the images along the way.

I encourage all Pagans to locate and join the Occupy movement nearest you. We are the 99%!

  • Great vid. I have the Black Family doing this song. Who is doing the version in the vid?

  • @Balefulmoon It's called The March of the Levelers or The Digger's Song by Attila The Stockbroker. It's about a radical agrarian movement toward the end of the English Civil War. The cool thing about this version is that it starts out with a traditional penny whistle/drum instrumental, goes into an electric version of Digger's All Stand Up Now and ends in a hard rock version of The Digger's Song that I used on this video.

I found it on beemp3.com be searching for Digger's Song.

  • There were no acts of violence or arrests during Occupy Philadelphia. May they have eyes to see and ears to hear. I honor your taking a stand, DR. ~Anni~

  • @MIRTHandREVERENCE Thanks. I hope that the Occupations will continue to be nonviolent. That is the word continually preached in General Assembly. Practical workshops as to how to respond nonviolently are also held. But thanks for your support.

  • @DancingRabbit52 Thanks for letting me know. This is a great version of the song. Excellent song for these times as well.

  • @SpiritAustinH I agree. The pen is mightier than the sword. But the Declaration was written after some 10 years of planning, organizing, discussing, protesting and a year of open warfare. I have signed petitions and written letters but now it's cheap and easy to bang out an email. No risk of life, liberty or property. It involves and demonstrates more committment to show up in person and for hundreds/thousands of people to do it at the same time.

  • @SpiritAustinH Well, I have written my congresswoman. Will be writing my senators for all the good it will do. My 15 sec speech from the steps of City Hall made the Houston Chronicle but I don't think writing something will have the impact of hundreds of warm bodies standing together to be heard. BTW, visit the Occupy Houston Facebook page. There is lots more info there. Consider visiting an Occupy and taking part in a General Assembly. There is no minimum voting age at GA.

  • @SpiritAustinH I've already given the general goal. Some of the specifics include campaign reform, restoration of Glass-Steagall, ending of corporate personhood... the huge list can be found on the website. Why are we trying to accomplish it through marches and camp-ins? Well, other methods haven't worked. The powers that be aren't listening. Starting a converstation about how to solve our economic problems is what this is about.

  • End the corporate corruption of the democratic process in our government. There are specific demands and means to achieve both the overall goal and the specifics. They were arrived at through consensus in General Assemblies. Everyone has a voice. Everyone has a vote. Check out the website. They are posted there. You can link to most of them from the Occupy Houston FB page.

  • I'm asking this of every person who supports the Occupy whatever movement, what are you hoping to accomplish?
