Why are you talking about this in a Fugazi vid commentary field? I never got this. Yeah, Mackaye wrote the initial song called "straight edge", but he never told a single person to adhere to the idea - people jumped the bandwagon because of the ridiculously misconstrued general perception of the song - they turned the song into basically a rallying banner for assholes. I'll agree, with one caveat - fuck the straight edge MOVEMENT, not the IDEA. If you wanna do drugs, suit yourself, whatever.

It's funny how kids internalize and defend everything a musician says just because they like some songs. The Rap kids are all MOB, and the Nirvana kids are all "it's better to burn out than fade away", and the Fugazi kids hate both of them cause their ideas were thought of in a record studio.

I really hate that when I come here to listen to this exemplary piece of art, the first comment I see is an insubstantial argument about/defense of the concept of "straightedge". This song isn't by Minor Threat, it's Fugazi. Their personal politics when it comes to substance abuse have no relevance to the song in question. Just fucking listen.
