The Synergy Synthesizer was manufactured by Digital Keyboards from 1982 to 1985. Its a pretty rare instrument and I've found it to be a very expressive instrument for having only very limited control over the individual tones.
The sounds played here are the ones stored in the internal memory. If anyone knows how I can get the original software floppies, please let me know!

  • So, I just picked up a Kaypro II and recieved the SYNHCS software floppies from an ebay sale. Couldn't wait to get it up and running so I plugged it all it and booted it up. I was able to view the contents of any of the disks in both drive A and B of the Kaypro II as well as run a test of the paths within the Synergy from the Kaypro successfully. When I attempt to load a machine state or cartridge file from the voice library disks I get an error that says, "bad sector". Don't know how to fix it.

  • I have one of these with no cartridges, it powers up but no sound comes out! It's hella sick looking atleast:(

  • does it has a pedal? :P

  • @stealthgear IF u knew about this Monster, then u would KNOW why they have to fuck with a old azz Kaypro or a old 8-bit IBM PC, this IS STILL the Greatest commercial digital synthesizer, that almost no-one knows about,it was born at "Bell Labs".this and it's larger version the "GDS" general development system, nothing then and even NOW today has even come close, not the Synclavier, the Fairlight or even the PPG,that's why.software has to be rewritten in modern in a O.S system mac/OS11 or Linux.

  • There was an IBM PC version of the file loading software for the Synergy, it would probably not run on a newer PC-though, but it is worth a shot to try.

  • @cscairney Hi, sorry your computer/disks aren't working! :-( Have you done a Google search on "bad sector" yet? You should find a lot of info:

"A bad sector is a sector on a computer's disk drive or flash memory that cannot be used due to permanent damage"

To fix it you'd probably need to have the same sized floppy drive (are those 5.25" or 8" floppies?!) connected to a modern computer so you could maybe recover the data and make new disks or fix the existing ones. Could be other issues too

  • What sounds :)

One of the still interesting vintage numerical machine !

One day perhaps If I have more chance... to give one too !

  • Thank you SO MUCH for posting this.

BTW, what are you playing at 4:40?

  • @skodas If I'm not mistaken, DKI actually released a ROM cartridge of Carlos' "Tron" patches back in '82, after the movie came out.

  • Thanks for the thorough demonstration.

I've always wanted to know what these sounded like.
