Dr. Tom Pinkson starts this performance honoring the memory and teachings of his teacher, Huichol shaman Grandmother Guadelupe de La Cruz. He recounts a story she told 15 years ago that may be a Huichol premonition-prediction about global warming. She said "you gringos from the North have forgotten how to live with respect for Mother Earth, you've forgotten how to live with respect for the spirits of Nature and the Great Spirit, so it's creating disharmony and violence in the world. If you don't wake up and remember how to live from your heart and in harmony with all of nature, the Huichol people believe that Father Sun is coming closer to mother earth and can come so close that the sun will burn her up..." Considering all the talk these days about global warming, perhaps we should pay heed to this potentially profetic story.
Tom offers a sacred Peace Prayer to the seven-directions (South, west, north, east, above below, and Great Spirit in the center), with his shaman's rattle praying for guidance for us all to find ways to come back into harmony with nature and the earth. He gives thanks to the spirits and helper animals representing the four directions and the above spirits of the ancestors and star people and the below spirits of the earth and nature and the center from which we all come forth and to which we all return.
He follows with a vision quest story that happened during 911. He was on vision quest in the Yosemity high country and woke up that night on 911 with an uncomfortable, eery feeling. He knew something was happening, so he just became quiet and just listened for a while. Then he realize there were no sounds of airplanes which was unusual, since Yosemity was a popular flight path route. A week later after coming out of the mountains, he was told about the airplanes attacking the Pentagon and WTC towers. That night, after he went back to sleep, tomas had a dream in which he saw young people coming together all around the world and they were singing a chant that stayed in his head for days. Then when he came out of the mountains and heard the news, he realized what the dream and prayer-chant meant:

Tomas invites the audience to get into the power and intention of the prayer and to use the singing of the chant to step into the power of our intention and being alive as a human being. Our thoughts, prayers, hopes, behaviors, actions and intentions make a difference and go into that larger field. In singing a chant like this together, we have an opportunity to bring our minds and spirits together to work together to create a stronger, conscious energy force for the content of the prayer to send into that field. Each and everyone of us has the power to be a peace-maker, to breath into our hearts, open our hearts, give thanks for our lives and contribute to a critical mass for peace.
After toms leads the audience in several rounds of the group prayer-chant, he blesses the stage and sages his daughter who starts an improvisational dance to a unique version of the tune "Amazing Grace".
