This is a wonderful tune about the power of love and redemption. Not only that, it has a great hook, wonderful chorus and pretty nice lyrics.

I never knew that 'sweet cherry wine' was his metaphor for the blood of Jesus Christ. Awesome song.

Ya know, I’m a big Tommy James fan and I remember when I bought this song on 45, I had to retune it three times because it skipped at the same spot. Eventually I gave up on it. Bad pressing of the record I guess. I did recently find my original 45 on Mony Mony after reading Tommy’s book.. What do you think it is worth? I can even tell you where I bought it, at Woolworth’s on Harlem in Chicago…I thought the name was “Bony Bony”…bad AM radio . And I did get to see him live in 74

Wow....2008...they still sounds great...Have always, always loved this song! And Tommy James! How I wish that groups like this would still tour...and advertise, so we would know. Would give up anything to see them! Good for you golobos2! Now you know that music "back in the day" was awesome!!!!

@marieje09 I do not know, but I think we all come here to learn all of us loved this music and have wonderful memories of just sitting around passing the wine, enjoying the for me the summers of 69-72 were my best times... such great times...when friends were real, music was, and American had it problems but nothing like today.. we will never see the likes of those times again.

Tommy relied heavily on electronic sound effects when he wrote these songs. We expect that same sound. They do lose some impact when he just sings them straight.

This song popped in my head after hearing Baby Cherry was born

Tommy James's songs really summed up the mood in the late 60's and showed where we were heading in the early 70's. Singers like Tommy and John Fogerty did it without pandering or sounding petty. Tommy was one of a few acts that seamlessly crossed the barrier between the AM and FM radio dial. Defintely one of the class acts of the 60's and still sounds great. Hearing Sweet Cherry Wine reminds me of the bonfires at night in the park and passing around a bottle of wine in the summer of 1969.

I am 18 and I have had the plessure of seeing tommy 3 times and meeting him 2 times. he is my favorite artist of all time. He is as good as it gets. He sounds the same as he did in the 1960's. Great song to
