NOTE: This was filmed in late 1980's California, when gun restrictions in that state were getting harsher. The comments he makes about the legality of these rifles DO NOT APPLY TO ALL STATES. Thank you for reading this important note.

The truth about "Assault Rifles", and how mainstream media and society gives many normal semi-automatic rifles the misnomer of "Assault Rifle".

Semi-automatic rifles are not the same as "Assault Rifles".

This instructional video teaches you the difference between "Assault Rifles", and common semi-automatic rifles available to American citizens nowadays.

All 3 of these guns are legal. All it takes is a stamp to make an auto rifle legal and enough money to purchase one. What are you trying to prove other than being a liar?

This video was created in California in the 1980's and the legality issues he speaks about are in relation to California, not all states.

I have now added a note to the description to let everyone know so there is no confusion.

So all whats impotant is capacity? Dont you see how stupid this is? So, If I put expanded mag in simple semi-auto rifle it will make it so called "assault" =)))? And following this logic - real M-16 with 10 rounds should magicly become non-assault weapon =)))?

The real difference - in shooting mechanism. If rifle has switcher to full-auto, or burst-fire mode - it is assault rifle. If not - it is a simple rifle.

Im sorry but semi-auto rifles ARE ASSAULT RIFLES. Anything with a clip over 10 is counted as an assault rifle. If you remember when the Assault Rifle ban was in.. you couldnt buy any clip over 10 in semi automatic. The point is an assault rifle is any rifle that is short barreled with a clip above 10 rounds that would be devastating in a battle scenario. I can do just as much damage with both and most military keep their selector in semi auto; I dont care how many movies you watch

Yeah but nukes are so much more efficient than rocks. If not, why not allow everyone to have their own nuclear weapon?

Historically, in japan, they did a sword hunt for the reason that anyone with a sword who wasn't a samurai could simply be killed.

Translation: it makes law enforcement easier.

Now obviously, by this video, legislating against "assault" weapons would be hard, since it is not a clear category.

Of course that does not mean no legislation should be done, if not people could have automatic grenade launchers mounted to their car roof.

True, but it is stupid to make a law that will just make things worse.

If we make laws while thinking about the lawbreakers, why make laws at all?

People are still going to try to hurt the innocent with illegal guns, if such guns are made illegal. Why would you want the government to take away your means to protect yourself against the bad guys who DON'T CARE about laws?

Disregarding almost everything else, lets take it down to the fundamentals. If a bad person, wants to use a gun for bad things, how are laws going to keep them from getting these guns? If someone wants to kill someone (breaking the law), why would they not break another law to do so? If you take away guns, people will kill with knives. Take away knives, people will beat eachother with rocks. Bad people are GOING to do bad things, no matter what they do or don't have.
