Live at The Monterey County Fair, the fairgrounds made famous by D. A. Pennebaker's Rockumentary of The Monterey Pop Festival (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/D._A._Pennebaker), where you're forced once again to endure a strange version of "Hey Joe" (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hey_Joe) at the hands of another loud guitarist. Fascinating reading in Wikipedia about this song... who would have thunk there was all this history involved in a single by The Leaves? "Don't give me that back beat stuff - give it to me straight" is what I says to Joe (Wedlake on drums) as we figure things out. Marty Lydon (bass), "Cactus" he is sometimes called, and Mke Beck underneath the hat. I remember driving by the fairgrounds with my older brother and hearing The Animals, I think it was the Friday Nite, maybe Saturday, of the festival back in '67. I also remember there were people sleeping outside by Lake El Estero - saw people all over town sleeping in what normally were not known as comfy places. The beginning of the end, damned hippies! I think it was the then current Mayor, Minnie Coyle, who made sure that never happened again. By the way, this is the very stage where I had my "coming out party" in 1973 with the band Jasmine T. We were in Jr. High and only performed songs by CCR since the drummer sang, and that's just about all he wanted to sing. I was so nervous that I turned my back to the crowd and stared at the wall. Finally got over that stage fright... Yours truly, Maverick
Worst version of this tune I have ever heard. Total overplay and crap. Too many notes and not enough music.

Hay Mike - great to see you again. You're a long way from Pray MT. At least it's not raining there. How's Rye? And my beautiful angel?
