  • I have used 2 rows of stitching to gather, but never held the first bobbin thread...very interesting. What is the difference between Lingerie thread & Nylon thread. Is the Lingerie thread finer? That is what I have handy. Is this technique doable with my regular foot? I have all of the creative feet already, so I was just curious. Thanks for another interesting video!

  • @Barb515 You need to use our Pearls N Piping foot for this - the Nylon thread that I used on the video was Invisible - it's more slippery and works better for gathering than the Lingerie which is also Nylon... Glad you like the video :)

  • For this technique - you should not use a double needle because it would be very hard to cut the threads after you've sewn. Additionally, you'd not have the same look-

I do however love using this technique with elastic - a double needle makes a sheered looking elastic stitch... perhaps I'll have to do that video too ;)

  • Good point regarding mentioning the nylon thread - and mentioning that you have to wind the bobbin slowly. The one question I had was whether you think there is a disadvantage to using a twin needle?

  • @ChristianCrafter First, sorry this question wasn't answered sooner. The double needle is not recommended for this because you sew between the 2 rows when you apply the ruffled item to the garment. Then you remove the 2 rows of stitching. A double needle shares 1 bobbin and makes a zig zag look on the back of the fabric. If you sew between the 2 rows of stitching, you'll be sewing over those stitches making it nearly impossible to remove the bobbin threads and it will be messy on the back.

  • @cr8vgurl - I realized what a stupid question is was after I used a double needle for some heirloom sewing and saw it stitched a criss cross in the back!

  • Yes, please do a video using this technique with elastic. I own this foot and would love to see how to do that as well. Thanks for this great instructional video!
