I think Heenan intended this as a joke, but he touched a nerve with Piper when he spoiled something that kids look forward to in Santa Claus. I genuinely think Piper was VERY upset, and Monsoon sensed it. And the way out of it was to slam Heenan on the table, even though obvious fake punches followed.

There will never be another Bobby "the Brain" Heenan.
As a matter of fact there will never be another announcing duo like Bobby and Gorilla.

Man...Gorilla Monsoon (RIP) & Bobby Heenan were awesome....they are the reason I got into watching wrestling in the 80's....I remember the night this aired, my stepmother had ruined Christmas for everyone that day.....but this cheered us all up..I couldn't stop laughing!!!......no one can match the banter between Monsoon & Heenan.....not now....not ever!!

It was fake. At a book signing I asked Piper if he actually hated Heenan in real life, and basically said he liked Heenan and it was just for show.
