I met him years ago at a Ronnie Milsap session. Charlie McCoy was the session leader and Hal was playing steel. Pig Robbins played piano (along with Ronnie) and it was one of the most unforgettable momentes in my writing career! Great to hear all that talent at one time!
That was Sooo sad,but what a beautiful and fitting tribute.Hal is my favorite steel player of all time, and only that because of what I've watched of him on here.I'd have given ANYTHING to meet him.
i had the honor of having hal play steel on my first album..he was a very gifted creative musician as well as a great guy. i was sad to hear it when he passed:-( he really enjoyed his solo on my country blues tune 'Music City Blues".i will try to find the footage and post it on here of him in the studio grinning ear to ear while laying his part..billy barr
I did not ever get to meet the great Hal Rugg..I came along to steel guitar after he had passed. But I do enjoy getting to see him on TV re-runs of the Wilburn Bros. RIP Hal Rugg...your missed by the ones who knew you and the ones who wished they could have known you.

I can't say where or when I first heard Hal play, but I know that everything I've ever heard him play was creative and beautiful.
I only wish I had the chance to have met and
talked with him.

Hey Tenbender22
Wow what a great video of my friend. Hal and I played many steel guitar shows together. He and Vicki were close friend of my wife and I.
Thanks a million for the video tribute.
I will be posted some more video of Hal picking soon.

What a nice tribute to one of the nicest, and best steel guitarists ever. Hal is certainly missed.
