WARNING - PERSONAL OPINION AND PHILOSOPHY AHEAD:
I feel the urge to leave this here stimulated by the ongoing arguments around videos like this one:
Please listen to yourself when you start arguing about martial arts.
To me it seems that people have no appreciation for dedicated martial artists. What does it matter if he's "REAL SHAOLIN" what is real shaolin?
These monks live a buddhist live, dedicate their entire day to training and spirituality and that 365d/y
They have incredible skills, flexibility, strength, endurance and motivation for what they are doing.
who are you to diminish that?
I mean i don't care if you do - but look at yourself.
If you think MARTIAL Arts is all about fighting and how to most effectivly kill/counter someone - please do not bother arguing with me - we seem to have different views and we will not get together. No need to read on.
Also for the arguments around different martial arts and styles.
If you are one of the people spitting phrases like "Martial arts X is so much more effective than Martial arts Y" or "My Martial arts is better than" or "this form is so not effective - there's no real punch"
..then you are no martial artist to me and years in mental development away from being something like a master.
If your master/sifu/sensei tells you something like that or if he cannot appreciate other styles - he's no master/sifu/sensei yet.
A real master can appreciate other peoples' dedication to different styles and Martial Arts. Because it is about staying agile and healthy in your life and being able to help others.
If you learn Martial Arts to "kick ass" - keep on doing so. I don't care - but you're worthless to a community of martial artists in my eyes.
I quote Ip Chun here:
"..And those who just use Wing Chun in order to fight - thinking that you can take on 9 people at once - well, I say it's of no help in solving society's problems. However if people can seek to use Wing Chun to improve one's health then Wing Chun will continue to develop forever."
I for instance train classic tae kwon do (not the olympic one with contact zones and fights), aikido and i learned a bunch of other techniques from different MAs from and with friends. Yes - I do not practice wing chun - and still know the principle and can appreciate it.
Get away from the "This is my Martial Arts and this is your's" view and start appreciating any dedication to hard and healthy training.
In my opinion you should see being physically and technically superior to others as only a side effect of your training.
I do not diminish any other Martial Arts - because two real masters from two different styles should be able to talk to each other like civilized people and meet each other on one level.
..and i do not yet consider myself to be a master.
bet that guy could kick all of our asses
