The actor playing Edna Turnblad's name is Paul Vogt he's actually known more for being part of the MADtv cast for three years from seasons 8-11 way before he even graced the tv show Hannah Montanna, he was also in Princess Diaries 2

@Dullfang2 Some stage actors do play her more like a woman, but the role is meant to be played like a man on stage. Also, was the production you starred in a professional production?

@frymahhide1982 well, i was in a production of hairspray during january, and our actor who played edna sounded more like a woman.
